Dating back to Florence in 1919, the Negroni cocktail was said to have been created by Fosco Scarslelli in his bar, Cafe Casoni, after the renowned Count Camillo Negroni asked for his favourite drink, the Americano, to be strengthened with gin following a recent trip to England. The bartender complied, but added an orange slice, rather than the traditional lemon twist, and the Negroni was born.
