The Green Wines region was already officially demarcated since 1908. This recognition marked the birth of the identity of Vinho Verde as a product with its own personality. Amarante was always a major center of agricultural production, and wine production was not far behind: it was one of the first five sub-regions of the denomination of controlled origin with Moncao, Lima, Basto and Braga.
